The Japanese epidemiologic findings reviewed in this report are included in the database system developed by the Institute for Global Tobacco Control. Please download the database as well as the users’ manual according to the download instructions. Users can freely search the database as well as create figures and tables using the system. The evidence tables in the Annex of the report were created using this function. System requirements are shown in the Users’ Manual. The system is not compatible with Macintosh computers.

This database system was developed in 1994 by Dr. Samet, co-editor of this report, in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to prepare for testimony in a lawsuit against tobacco companies for the State of Minnesota.   It was further developed and used in the 2004 Surgeon General ' s Report on Active Smoking and Health ( The Health Consequences of Smoking: a Report of the Surgeon General ).
